Bounty of the Barrens A chorus of rails, sparrows, bitterns, and wrens makes Crex Meadows the place to be when the sun rises over northwestern Wisconsin.
As I turned off the alarm at 2 a.m., I
briefly wondered what causes a person to decide to forgo six or more
hours of sleep. By the looks on my birding buddies' faces, I knew they
were thinking the same thing, but after a Big Day pep talk and a jolt of
coffee, we were on the back roads of Burnett County, Wisconsin, headed
to the fabled pumphouse at Crex Meadows Wildlife Area.
Check out the online version HERE to read the whole article. -Crex was also featured in Outdoor Photography recently, here is a LINK to that website. -The history of Crex Carpet Company was recently highlighted in the Winter 2006 issue of the Ramsey County (Minnesota) Historical Society magazine.
